When my daughter started to plan her wedding, finding the perfect wedding day perfume fragrance was one of the items that she added to her checklist. Knowing that this was one of the most important events in her life, she felt that by selecting a signature fragrance would make her day even more special and memorable. Furthermore, she certainly didn’t want to clash with what her soon to be husband was planning on wearing.
The perfume we wear on a daily basis may not be suitable for special occasions, such as a wedding in this case. Some fragrances may be too strong and could be offense to some people especially if they have heightened olfactory senses. Therefore, I provided her with some tips to keep in mind when looking for her wedding day signature scent:
• Our sense of smell is at its peak more so in the afternoon. This would be the most opportune time to go and try on perfume.
• Try narrowing your search by first determining what type of person you are. Do you tend to enjoy a more floral, fruity, or a natural type of scent? By figuring this out first you can eliminate any scents that you hold no interest in.
• Perfume smells different on each of us. What your girlfriend just wore on her wedding day may not evoke the same smell. Keep in mind that certain medications, smoking, and what you ingest can alter the aroma that the fragrance evokes.
• In order to get the full effect of what the fragrance will smell like, apply a small amount to your pulse points, such as your wrists or neck. Your olfactory senses will get overloaded if you try on too many scents. Therefore, limit yourself to applying two fragrances each shopping trip.
• You want to be able to smell the top, middle and base notes of the fragrance. To accomplish this you need to wait till the perfume completely dries on your skin. This can take anywhere from a half hour to an hour to get the full benefit of the perfume.
By following these simple tips she selected her wedding day signature scent. Not only did she look beautiful, she smelled amazing and she received many compliments letting her know she made the right choice.
